The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

Each time a prominent awards ceremony approaches, there’s always an outcry to include of new categories to honor unsung work and delight the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. So would strategy board titles, representing a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist for pushing forward because like all single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand stands as crucial and significant. Here's the proposal: We need a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and it will always spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. But it is an essential concession for the industry of video games, which are so diverse they hardly constitute one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these classifications actually cover a lot of ground, making space possible for most games within them.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to put them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles released every year that have no home in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game received no recognition in any category during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations that year
  • Popular arranging title got ignored in 2021
  • Limited numbers of logic titles barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're compact experiences, however the design of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles worldwide continuing this trend for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience rivals famous sandbox experiences competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, while interacting with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. You could fill a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories in important events. Logic title developers function at the hard edge interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait decades.
